Västra Hamnen Urban Design Proposal, Malmö, Sweden (copyright Kanozi Arkitekter)

200,000m2 urban planning proposal for Västra Hamnen in Malmö. The mixed use development attempts to reuse existing structures where possible to preserve historical value and provide a more cost effective and environmental solution. The site is proposed to adopt bus and tram connections to the centre of the city to encourage public transport and minimise vehicle traffic. Priority for pedestrians and cyclists has been acknowledged by segregating main vehicle movements to the periphery.

Individual blocks can be seen as permeable communities neither public nor private. The proposal strives to achieve variation in building typologies and densities in each region, thus creating more interesting mixed use urban areas.
